Gestational Diabetes Nutrition

Gestational Diabetes nutrition support from diagnosis to postpartum

You want to do everything you can for your baby. Let’s start with what helps now.

Understanding GD

What does a Gestational Diabetes diagnosis mean?

Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar that develops during pregnancy when pregnancy hormones make it harder for insulin to regulate glucose effectively.

It’s not your fault. It’s not because you ate too much sugar, missed too many walks, or weren’t healthy enough before pregnancy. This is a hormonal response during pregnancy, and it’s more common than most people realize, affecting roughly 10% of pregnancies in the U.S.

Left unmanaged, gestational diabetes can increase risks for both mom and baby, including larger birth weight, early delivery, a higher likelihood of C-section, and future risk of type 2 diabetes.

That can sound scary, especially when you are already worried about your baby. But here’s what most women don’t realize: There are proven actions you can take right now to help yourself and your baby.

Food choices, food pairing, meal timing, movement, sleep, and stress management can all make a difference in how your body responds. You don't have to figure it all out at once, and you don't have to navigate it alone.

This is where we start.

RIGHT NOW

If right now you’re feeling…

  • Overwhelmed by what to eat and what to avoid
  • Frustrated by the lack of support after your diagnosis
  • Scared that your blood sugar is affecting your baby
  • Guilty, like somehow this is your fault
  • Unsure what your numbers actually mean

WITH SUPPORT

With support, it’s possible to…

  • Feel more confident about your numbers
  • Eat with less fear and more structure
  • Understand what your body is showing you
  • Work toward a healthy pregnancy and delivery
  • Build habits that support your health beyond pregnancy

Beyond Google

Why personalized support matters

Google and AI can give you ideas. But they can’t look at your actual numbers, your meals, your pregnancy, and your real life.

Gestational diabetes is personal. A meal that works for one woman may spike another. A breakfast that worked last week may not work the same way as your pregnancy changes.

That’s why you need more than general advice.

When you work with me we review your food logs, blood sugar patterns, schedule, stress, sleep, and movement so you can understand what your body is showing you and what to try next.

You get a real human person in your corner, helping you troubleshoot, adjust, and feel less alone through each stage of gestational diabetes.

The Program

Your GD Roadmap

Your GD Roadmap is one-on-one support for managing your gestational diabetes. We take the diagnosis, the numbers, the food questions, and the fear, then turn them into a plan you can use through each stage.

01

At diagnosis

We start with immediate support when the diagnosis is fresh, and the questions are coming fast. We sort through what feels most urgent: what to eat, what your numbers mean, and what to try first, what you should be asking your doctor.

02

During pregnancy

As your plan becomes clearer, we move into check-ins through delivery. We keep adjusting the plan around what your body is showing us. Between sessions, you have direct chat access for the questions that come up outside of appointments.

03

After delivery

We use your postpartum check-in to talk through recovery, blood sugar follow-up, energy, food, and what comes next for your long-term health. Women with GD have a higher chance of developing type 2 diabetes after they give birth, so we equip you with strategies and a plan.

What we work on together

Personalized nutrition protocol

We build your plan around your blood sugar patterns, food preferences, schedule, and lifestyle.

Carbohydrate balance and meal timing

You will learn how to pair carbs, time meals and snacks, and eat in a way that supports your numbers without turning food into a fear spiral.

Food log and number reviews

We look at your meals, snacks, fasting numbers, and post-meal readings so you can understand patterns instead of guessing.

Communication with your care team

I help you understand the food and lifestyle side of GD, while medication decisions, insulin adjustments, and medical care stay with your OB, midwife, or prescribing provider.

Movement, stress, and sleep

Food matters, and so do the lifestyle pieces that affect glucose. We look at movement after meals, sleep quality, stress, and nervous system support.

GD-friendly meals and snacks

You will get practical meals, snack ideas, and grocery lists built around your preferences, your numbers, and the foods your body handles well.

Collaborative Care

How I work with your care team

As a Certified Master Nutrition Therapist, my role is nutrition, lifestyle strategies, blood sugar education, and practical support. Your OB, midwife, endocrinologist, or prescribing provider remains responsible for diagnosis, medication, insulin adjustments, and medical care.

I work alongside your care team, not in place of them.

If insulin or medication becomes part of your plan, we keep going. Medication is not a failure, and it does not mean nutrition stops mattering. Food, timing, movement, sleep, stress, and consistency all continue to support your blood sugar and your confidence.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you're wondering about Gestational Diabetes, working with me, and what to expect.

What is included in your Gestational Diabetes services?

Your support will include one-on-one video sessions, direct chat access between sessions, food log and blood sugar number reviews, personalized nutrition guidance, meal and snack support, grocery lists and staples, favorite approved brands list, lifestyle strategies, and a postpartum check-in.

The goal is to help you understand your numbers, know what to eat, and feel supported from diagnosis through delivery.

When should I start gestational diabetes nutrition support?

The sooner you start, the better.

The first days after diagnosis are often the most overwhelming, and they are also when clear support can make the biggest emotional difference. You do not need to wait until you feel completely lost or until your next medical appointment.

If you were recently diagnosed, failed your one-hour glucose test, or are waiting on your three-hour test results, this is a good time to reach out.

Can I work with you if I’m waiting for my three-hour glucose test results?

Yes.

If you are waiting on results but already worried about your blood sugar, we can talk through where you are and what kind of support may make sense. Earlier support can help you feel more prepared and less overwhelmed, whether you receive a formal diagnosis or not.
